Abstract

The article analyzes the measures taken to suppress the popular uprising that took place in 1916 in the Amu Darya Division of the Turkestan region, as well as the arrest, investigation, and trial of uprising participants by military courts. Based on archival information, memoirs, and collections of documents cited in the dissertation, it examines resistance movements in Chimbay, Davkara, Terbenbes, and the Aral Sea region, the activities of punitive detachments, and inequalities in labor conscription. Attention is drawn to the fact that figures relating to local events differ in scope from the overall judicial statistics for Turkestan. The article shows that, although court decisions and administrative punishments were intended to stop the uprising, they did not eliminate public discontent completely.
