Workshop

Preparing and Applying for DOAJ indexing

Workshop Overview

The DOAJ currently indexes thousands of high-quality, peer-reviewed open-access journals. However, the application process is stringent, and many journals are rejected due to technicalities or failure to meet the DOAJ Seal criteria.

This workshop breaks down the 50+ questions in the application, explains the underlying principles of the Principles of Transparency and Best Practice in Scholarly Publishing, and provides practical tips for documentation.

Learning Objectives

By the end of this workshop, participants will be able to:

  • Complete the DOAJ application form with confidence.
  • Understand the minimum criteria for inclusion in the DOAJ.
  • Conduct a gap analysis of their journal’s website and policies.
  • Draft clear policies for Copyright, Licensing (Creative Commons), and Peer Review.
  • Navigate the technical requirements for metadata harvesting and archiving.

Target Audience

  • Journal Editors and Managers looking to increase their journal’s visibility.
  • Scholarly Communication Librarians supporting institutional repositories.
  • Universities looking to increase visibility and global reach.
  • Small/Society Publishers transitioning from print or subscription to Open Access.
